I want to get into trading, but what software should I use? Give me the pros and cons, please!

What do you mean when you say trading? I am of the understanding that Etrade has a pretty sophisticated set of trading tools for short term traders. I use TD Ameritrade and Fidelity. I do not recommend either for short term trading.

If you just want to buy some stock and hold on to it, Scottrade will do you just fine as will TD Ameritrade. If you are interested in excellent research material, I believe Fidelity has very good offerings.

I have Scottrade, E-Trade, and TD Ameritrade, and I like each of them pretty well. Ameritrade is probably my favorite.

Scottrade: Cheap trades at $7, very few extras
    Ameritrade: Excellent interface and features
E-Trade: Tons of features and extras, but more complicated interface

    Hope that helps
