What should i do about my mutual fund in this bad market?
i have about 4000 invested in a mutual fund, it was up to about 4400, but now with the bad market im back at my principle amount, do you think i should sell it before it goes any lower, or hold on and wait for the market to go back up?

Hold on to it. The market will always have fluctuations and corrections – you sell when high, not low.

It depends on the fund.
I would hold and buy more, because if you sell when it is high, you make more money.
If you buy more, you reduce your cost basis, lowering the amount it has to go up to make a profit.
Will it go down more? Of course it will. The market always fluctuates.

What should you do? Find every spare dollar that you can have and add it to your fund. Unless you will be needing the money within the next six months quit worrying about the normal ups and downs of the market.
Learn to be a wise investor and buy when everyone else is selling and sell when everyone else is buying.
I hope that this helps.

Take your principal. Return when things settle down since you are right now at break-even. This market will likely go much lower before it rebounds. This downturn is due mainly to the mortgage loan fiasco and is still shaking out.
Try a high yield CD for the short-term or stick it in the bank.
Always keep in mind what your fund is invested in.

Ride it out. It’ll probably partially recover by Christmas.
