Dollar Cost Average each month with equal dollar amounts. Pref into a IRA or Roth IRA account.

Vanguard, T. Rowe Price, Dodge & Cox, American Funds, Harbor Funds are all good. Morningstar.com has a good fund screener tool.

you need to read forbes or money magazine to get an idea of what fund is right for you. you want a fund that has at least 12% growth over a five year period or longer. (very simplified)
I see you are military, USAA has a good fund and they can help assist you as well (I use them). Stay away from anything First Command tries to sell you.
