This is one of the ideas that Obama rejected for the stimulus. What is wrong with it? To think if I had all my SS $$ and put it into the
stock market in 2001, by 2006 I would be rich and by 2009, well that would be a big problem wouldn’t it! Is there any wonder why the idea was firmly rejected. We already debated this under Bush when he spent all his political capital on it and Americans once again said…are you nuts, hell no. Why are Republicans saying he is acting partisan when they offer idea like this and they get rejected.

If you invested all of your SS$$, you would be dead unless you had other sources of income. Does that matter to you? This is wealth w/o a benefactor.

So you had an eight-year working career in mind?
If someone ready to retire NOW had all their SS $$ and put it into the stock market they would NOW have "only" about a 900% return (not exaggerating)
Good thing Obama/Democrats saved us from THAT.
The "debate under Bush?" Had you been paying attention, you would know that 100% of Congressional DEMOCRATS at the time said on the record it positively WILL catastrophically collapse in YOUR lifetime unless fundamentally changed. 100% of them also DEMANDED no changes be allowed – because they’re looking out for you.
The "partisan" comment was over more than just this issue. Since this term the GOP has had NO input whatsoever into any policy decision. NONE. On the bill you name – the "stimulus," they weren’t even allowed to SEE the final version before the vote.

And yet millions of people would lose everything in these recessions.

Have you ever heard of market inefficiencies?
So Republicans would rather have thousands of brokers charge millions of times more for brokerage services on millions more retirement accounts than there are now.
Plus the fact that the average investor loses most of his investment money in just one year. And they would have millions of average people who have never played the markets before do this.
I find the logic quite underwhelming.
