I am 18 years old, freshman in college, and want to get into the . I mean why not start now and make a little, or maybe a miracle will happen and I will make a good bit of . I have no formal trading experience, I bought some stock through my grandfather a few years back, and want to know which online trading site would be best for a beginner. • Things about stock trading that puzzle me?

Recently I started learning how to stock using the virtual game from Market Watch (http://vse.marketwatch.com/). And some of the stuff I read online doesn’t match what I see in my portfolio. For example a few days ago I bought 1100 of APPY at {content}.41 per stock. Right now the price of the stock went back to 0.41 but in my TOTAL RETURN field I see -3.66% and in my GAIN/LOSS I see -8.36$. Why is that? Shouldn’t it be 0 since the stock is the same price as what I bought it for? Another question, what is market value? I thought it was the current value of my stock based on the current stock price but the number I see is 7.92, but 1100 shares at 0.41 per share is exactly 1, why is it off by a few dollars? Also last question, what is total equity? Mine reads 1.69 but my cash reads .77, If I started with 0 why don’t the numbers add up? Thanks, you don’t have to answer all of them at once.

  • Pre-market stock trading?

So I live in Colorado and the market goes from 8am to 2pm and those hours don’t fit my work schedule. So I’m wondering is there away I could place an order at like 6 In the morning

  • Online stock trading?

Ok I am new to this and I figured I would ask some people online even though my dad worked on and my grand pop made a lot of investing in the ( yeah yeah I know your all going to say ask them however my grand pop told me something which went like this Don’t listen to your father or my suggestions if you lose because we made your decisions you learn nothing if you lose it because you decided to invest in something you learn what not to do. So I am trying to take his suggestion) So the question is not what to buy but what website to use for online trading.

I did a google search and found this website and I think it’s the most informational.
    http://online-stock-trading-review.toptenreviews.com/

I was mainly looking at the first 2 however I am pulled away from the first one because the Tiered Commission Structure is checked.
I am pulled away from the second because it doesn’t have the Virtual Trading options, which is like a simulator and I kind of want that so I can see what others think.

I also noticed for the first one it says
"There is no minimum investment required to open an account with optionsXpress. The commission is .95 or .95 on all orders, including broker–assisted orders; this is excellent considering most brokers charge for assistance. optionsXpress charges .50 for each options contract."

I am confused on this statement of "The commission is .95 or .95 on all orders"
So it is saying we are taking at least about 10 dollars each time you make a .

    Thanks
Just what one do you feel is the best option to use?

  • Stock trading and tax consequences?

I recently started investing in the . I initially started with the idea that I’d invest in 5 diversified ETF’s or and just let it sit . . . . .the idea being I wouldn’t incur any tax penalties for a few years.

I got tired of waiting for those funds to get moving, so I sold those shares and am now invested in ~15 fairly diversified and have been actively trading for profit (and losses, of course).

If things continue the way they are, I will hopefully have a nice profit . . . I’m just concerned that taxes are going to kill me. In the books I’ve read, there are two prominant themes:

    1) Taxes + Fund Expenses + Trading Commissions will erode any profits you may have made trading. Just stay invested in a few diversified and rebalance once per year.

    or

    2) If you’re paying taxes, it’s because you’re making . It’s not a bad thing to have to pay taxes. away.

Any thoughts/advice? Any good books on and taxes?
