  • How Stock Market Prices Are Determined?

    Hi,
I have a senior project about this topic (Virtual Trading Game). So, I have been searching the answer of this question.

What i am wondering is the technical information of determining stock prices. I have a list of buy and sell orders. Each order includes a quantity and a limit price(if it is not current market price). I don’t know the technical details of what happens at the background. How the execution performs?

    Please help, thank you…
I know about bid and ask prices. What I do not know is how stock prices are determined with these bid-ask prices. And I need details.

    For example,
Let’s say the market price is per share for XYZ

    Bids
person1 wants to buy 100 shares with the bid price
person2 wants to buy 80 shares with the bid price
person3 wants to buy 50 shares with the bid price

    Asks
person4 wants to sell 150 shares with the ask price
person5 wants to sell 100 shares with the ask price

What will be the new price for XYZ after the execution performs, why? Also when these pending orders will be completed?

    thanks…

  • What type of software should I get for stock trading?

I am interested in getting some software preferably free for trading. I am looking into becoming a day trader, swing trader, and value investor. Basically, I would like software that has almost all the tools of the . I don’t know which software is bad and which is useful. I also would prefer software that would allow me to put in my own formulas and statistical analysis. I know a lot about finance, accounting, and stuff like that but I don’t know how to do these calculations really quick. I also would like to know how would I research . For example, I do not know all the that are in the bio-tech market. I also do not know about how to get a news feed for a certain industry or the that I would own. Plus, how would I know if the news has a high impact on the market? Which news site has more clout? Or is it simply better to get news from many sources about the ? Is there a way for me to detect a price discrepancy like what occurred to Accenture stock (ACN) regardless of the industry or that I am focusing on? Here is a link to that article.

Also, do you happen to have any good book or textbook recommendations about the or trading? I would like a book that would explain how to use formulas and make certain graphs etc. Of course it would be better to calculate with software so it does not take too long.
    Thank You for your help

  • When it comes to stock market trading, what does the volume of the stock represent?

Does the volume represent the number of shares bought or sold? What does it mean when the volume is in the red? For a DOW company, what would be considered a large volume for a day? 1 Million, 10 Million, 100 Million. Where can you go to see the trends in the volume of corporations?

  • will the economy someday be run entirely by computers that started out in stock trading?

We are now inventing software that can predict the best to invest in short or long term. Someday they may also be able to analyze news reports for relevant keywords or phrases that may affect stock prices. The idea of an auto-trading computer could make these more efficient. Even neural networking has been used in programs.

So what if these became so popular that one day 99.999% of all transactions were made by computers.

Do you think this could happen and what would the world be like with a software program running how people invest.
