Does anyone know if there is an acutal degree (BS or MS) in regard to the or investing?
Yeah, I am not looking to help people manage their . I am looking for myself. I already have an MBA but was really looking for analysis classes in the Dallas area.

    Most of the good colleges for trading purposes are in New York, or thereabouts. All of the professional floor traders take trading courses, and there are an abundance of trainers there. Probably a similar situation in Chicago. But New York has always been the finance capital of the world.

    You’re going to pay for your education one way or the other, either by learning from your mistakes or paying up front for formal instruction.

    Since you are wanting to do this on your own, and don’t care about the degree per se, the best route may be to hire a trainer, or take a series of trading courses. Begin to look for a mentor.

    It may benefit you more and speed your approach to actual trading, by staying away from a structured college and go straight for the meat of the matter. Books can help tremendously, but an experienced trader can save you a lot of money and headache, and set you on the right track.

    I’ve seen several online courses. One I’ve wanted to take is from RBI TradeStalker. This guy is very good, and very successful.

    Yes, I’m sure there are some. In business school, we could concentrate in a number of areas. Typically, investing is a subset of Finance. Some school’s focus more on corporate finance vs. investing. You just have to decide what interests you and then find the places that can help get you there.

    What would you like to learn? I’m sure either I can teach you or point you in the direction for what you wanted to learn.

    Do you want to learn academia (theory behind Black-schoels, CAPM, and so forth, or learn moreso how to actually make money?

    The best direction I could point you is the CFA. A CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) is well respected and has a very good back ground in investing. If you watch CNN and CSPAN and other business shows and publications, the CFAs are on their frequently. Add to this that the CFA Institute now has partnered with universities,(London Business School, University of Wisconsin-Madison, HEC Paris, University of Pretoria and others) to offer a Masters degree where the CFA licensing counts for the majority of the requirements for the degree. When you finish the CFA you basically get the masters degree and the CFA distinction, both very valuable in the trading world.

    Yep, CFA pretty much kicks a lot of ass in the finance world. But unfortunately, academia is not really as important as your experience and record of positive trades. Trading in markets is this sort of grey area where people with little or no prior education in that area can do well for themselves and other people who have PhD’s can get poor fast. But that doesn’t mean totally neglect the educational side.

    A great site to look at if you want to practice your investing skills is http://www.top10traders.com This is a totally free site. You can create your own portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in ‘play’ money, and then watch how your stocks compare against over traders. The site also lists out which investors are doing the best and what stocks they have bought. Just click on the portfolio of the best investors and you can see the stocks they like. Good luck!
