questions about drum brands?
I have been playing drums for 6 years and I have been playing on a beginner mapex set. I am currently in a punk/funk band and we recently started booking gigs. I wouldn’t mind investing into a nicer set but I know nothing about drums as i am a self taught drummer. We also plan on going into the studio to record too. I’d say my price rage is from 0-800. What are some drum set models that could possibly suit me best?

I have been playing drums for 7 years and i have played the same yamaha kit. Mapex is a decent brand, instead of getting a new set, you might want to upgrade your drum heads. It all depends on the sound your looking for, different kits have different sized drums. If youre looking for a higher pitched sound, go with smaller drums, ect. I can give you some links of drumsets i like.

Well, I’m cheap and for my money a drum’s a drum. I’d highly recommend combing musiciansfriend.com and music123.com as they have lots of drum sets. As you well know MANY sets are sold without cymbals or high hats so be aware of what is actually in the kit.
Good luck – punk/funk? That sounds really cool – do you have a myspace or soundcloud account?
