.net framework 2.0 – starter training material?

hello -
i am looking to acquire an MCTS certification to begin a career in software development. i currently have no credentials, but know vb 6.0 very well. i went to http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcts/winapps/default.mspx and looked at the e-learning collections for 5160 and 5161. however, it seems that these assume you already have knowledge of .net framework.
is the above statement true? should i invest my money into other training first?
thanks in advance.

Stick with it. MS just doesn’t have a very good system of letting people know that there is information out there. O’Reilly makes some good books, as does Murach’s.
