Investing in the stock market?

My accounting class at school is participating in a competition. Each person has their own account. We use fake to "invest" in companies’ stock, and the goal is to earn the highest profit. The companies we choose are completely our decision, but the teacher hasn’t really given any advice on how to choose. I have no idea how to decide. So, what are some of the best companies to invest in right now?

Okay, think about the world economy right now. For example, with the war in Afghanistan, Boeing and Lockheed Martin were good investments since both companies had a purpose in the military. Troops are being pulled out of the war zone, so it’s not very wise to invest in those companies. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are coming up, maybe a little *shopping* might occur over the next 2-3 months. I knew what to do last year and ended up receiving $317.93 (real money) as a reward. The rest is up to you.

Thats the whole point of the assignment. YOU have to figure out what is the best company, invest and hope to profit.

Halliburton and BP. The Republicans are getting Congress, so Exploratory/Drilling/Petroleum Companies like them will be back on top.
