Please dont start an internet business! 85% to 90% of retail websites are shut down their first year of business. Its a lot better if you start very very very small. I have a really great personal idea that i wouldn’t mind sharing with you. I have been planning it for a while and since you start very small it won’t hurt as much if for some reason business isnt good. Small businesses are easier to make, easier to keep up, and easier to shut down.

You are right to explore the market before investing in any company or selling venture and once you do that, you would need to explore any companies to make sure they meet your needs as an sales person.
"What is in demand" is such an broad term and could have any variety of answers.
And what is in demand where you live might not be where I live.
Instead you need to figure out what is selling and what is over saturated in the online market business.
You also need to consider how much online time are you willing to invest to get your venture up and going.
You need to remember just because you have an online store is NO GUARANTEE you will get sales—in fact you will need to place many ads to direct traffic to your site.
You will also need to incorporate other advertising venues to market yourself, and some of these include:
Biz cards–you can hand these out locally or include them with bills when you pay them
Catalogs–use an publishing program and create your own catalogs (make sure that the company approves first)
Sales Flyers-again, using an printing publishing program with the company’s permission, print these out–place them in places of local interest
Samples–Most everyone appreciates an free sample, most everyone wants to try before they buy…
And then you need to decide, are you going to market from your website exclusively or are you going to venture into Ebay?
Will the company allow you to market yourself exclusively or Ebay–or are they strictly in person only sales.
What type of inventory is required, startup costs if any are required?
How much interest can you generate personally for the product? If you can not generate interest in it, how will you get your customer’s excited about it?
And for companies that are doing well online–
Think Baby Boomers-as the baby boomers start retiring there is going to be an greater need or demand for products that appeal to them since they will have the most expendable income–
This could be health/wellness companies, bath/body companies or even decorating companies or food companies.
Or you might consider marketing to the trendy teenagers young 20’s age because most of them continue to live at home and also have an expendable income–
for them:
Clothing, bath/body or electronics might be an way to go.
Explore the market, do online searches to see what is over saturation and also decide on an target audience will help you make the right choice for you for online direct sales!

My advise. Get a few of your passion areas and do a research to see which ideas or passion have the highest demand and whether there are a lot of online competitior. You could do it using some of the application software such as worktracker software.
If you ready want to start up an online business, you should also need to know what type of internet business model you intend to get into.

Perhaps you should start out promoting a few quality affiliate
products to test the waters.
Then, produce an information product of your own and set up an affiliate program to sell it.
Allan Gardyne’s Associateprograms.com is a reputable
source of affiliate products.
