I know that some funds have an SEC filing for this, and I’m having trouble finding it. Thanks for your help.

The SEC only requires that mutual funds report their holdings on a semi-annual basis (in relation to the fund’s fiscal year which may be different from a normal calendar year) and the information can be found in the fund’s semi-annual report. Many fund companies will report them on a quarterly basis as well and they are also available on the fund companies website or by calling the customer service number and requesting a copy.

They are required to file but this information isn’t easily available. If you really want to find out you need to contact the mutual fund and ask them for a prospectus. They are required to provide this as of February 2009 to all new investors in their mutual funds as well as anyone that requests it.

This is the best way to be informed before investing in a mutual fund. Check the website below, because it contains a lot of helpful info on mutual funds.

Call them up (your mutual fund company), and ask for a copy of the fund’s annual report. I believe they do this at least once a year. I know I get annual reports for all my TRowe Price funds.
