Ive served 7 years will be eight when I get out. I have been working on a marketing degree and reading every book written in the last 10 years on investing plus keeping up on finanical based periodicals. What else can I be doing to help me get an edge?

Being a financial advisor is more than being a financial technician. I have seen a lot of technically smart advisors fail in their first year due to a lack of sales and in turn commission income.
There is no shortage of financial degrees or areas of specialization out there, but if you do not have skills in building and maintaining relationships you will not make it in this business.
I also have a degree in Marketing / Advertising but it still is not enough, I recommend you put down some of the financial magazines and pick up some books by sales masters like Zig Ziglar and Og Mandino.
In my humble opinion, people skills and self discipline will give you the edge you are looking for.
By the way – thank you for your military service. I don’t think civilians should have to wait until Remembrance / Veterans Day to say thanks.
