I now have a Roth in American Funds (BALBX) through a broker. Is it possible to mimimize that fund to like 1% of my portfolio and then add a Vanguard 2035 retirement fund with it. I no longer want to pay that 5.75% high load with AF. I also dont really feel like changing everything over to Vanguard, I think it would be a big hassle. Does that sound stupid or should I just bring the AF over to Vanguard?

Just open another Roth IRA account with Vanguard. That is the easiest wasy to accomplish what you wish to accomplish.

can you buy a circuit city gift card at best buy? of course not!

however, you can just open an account with American Funds, or with a broker (e-trade, td ameritrade, etc.) where you can buy funds from both families.

if you don’t want to have your account with American Funds, just roll it over to another broker, preferably one that doesn’t have its own fund family, so you have more options.
