Any company that asks for advance payment or has a fee for providing work at home jobs is likely to be a scam. Many companies like LiveOps,Alpine Access, WorkathomeAgent, employ home based callers to answer phone calls for them. These companies are legitimate and do not ask for any advance payment. They are all scams. Don’t waste your money on them.

While it is true that it takes money to make money, most work at home deals that ask for money up front are scams. Maybe you could watch other children in your home, start a baked-goods route with local restaurants, or something else. If you do invest, make sure it is with a reputable company. Check the better business bureau (you can do it online) and ask around before you lay down your hard-earned single-mom cash. My good wishes go with you.

Most at work at home businesses are making money by what you need to invest to get a list of information from them. I’ve never heard of anyone who found them to be truly legit and profitable.

Do you have any work skills that could be done at home as a private outsource? Say a secretary or bookkeeper? I don’t know what kind of jobs you have had, but I would think you would make more by working for an individual or small independent business who would pay for the work to be done without having to pay for an in-house employee.

EDITED TO ADD: I’d be very cautious of Shanna’s post (above) and Whowantst…(below) – Shanna’s sounds suspiciously like a pyramid scheme. And as for the one below, I live by the adage, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Please, please beware of responders trying to take advantage of your situation!

I am sorry to say these are complete scams. Any legitimate employer would not require money upfront from a prospective employee.

I can appreciate your priority to stay with the baby. I had a friend in a similar situation and she opened a home daycare. There are so many working mothers looking for suitable daycare. If you think it’s something you would be interested in, be sure to contact your state and county for licensing information, set up a tax id with the IRS, etc.

    Good luck!

Unfortunately, they’re scams. I think usually the only work from home jobs that are legit start out as regular office jobs, and then the employee has to discuss the possibility of working from home with their employer. Basically, you have to have a lot of weight with a company before you’d be granted this priviledge. Perhaps you could find a worksite that has a free daycare for their employees – although these are hard to come by, there are some out there. You could probably see the baby during work breaks in that situation. Good luck with your search!

It is legal for a company to charge a fee if they are placing people into jobs as contract labor. But be careful so that you chose wisely. Many will just take your money. One type of business that is seems to have lots of stay at home moms is medical billing and they pay good too. Here is some information you can read on this.

Remember there is no such thing as a free lunch. These people take your money and run. They prey on people in your situation that are desperate to make money. I report every one of them that I see.

Get some good, stable counseling and start there. You don’t want to get in a situation like this again. You have to find out what your problems are and solve them. You are probably going to have to put your child in day care and find a regular job. If you don’t have any marketable skills, then apply for aid and go to school….Get up and do something positive for yourself and your child. Find your place in life. Millions of women have been in your place and fought their way out and to the top.

Just be wise and be careful. Don’t allow people to take advantage of you. Since you do not have family, find someone you can trust and confide in. You need a mentor type person right now to help guide you thru this rough spot.

DON’T do it!! Find something else that will work for you. You should never have to pay someone in order to do work.

A real legit business will not charge you….I have not ran across a legitimate one yet. I am pregnant and looking for an opportunity as well. One thing I did see was a phone actress. If I didn’t have a b.f I would do it and your getting divorced. Im assuming it’s like phone sex operator or something but it is at phoneactress.com and they pay good from what I hear. Some may think it is degrading but money is money.
